Live layout parity

The guides don't move. Only the script does.

One page from a machinery manual, rebuilt across ten languages. The magenta margin guides and the cyan baseline are locked to the English source. Every language has to fit inside them. That is the job.

Who we work with

We are the production floor behind translation agencies.

You won the localization contract. You have linguists, project managers and a TMS. What you do not want is three full-time InDesign operators sitting idle in a slow month and drowning in a busy one. That is the gap we fill.

Primary

Language service providers

White-label multilingual DTP under your brand. We sign your vendor agreement, work inside your file naming and folder conventions, and never appear in front of your client. Most of our volume comes from LSPs ranked between 30 and 300 globally.

Direct

Enterprise localization teams

In-house teams at medical device, industrial equipment, pharmaceutical and consumer electronics companies who already own their translation memory and need a production partner for the layout stage only.

Overflow

Design and print studios

Agencies handed a twelve-language rollout of artwork they designed in English. We rebuild it in every locale without touching your creative decisions or asking your designers to learn Arabic composition.

Services

Everything between the approved translation and the print-ready file.

We do not translate. We rebuild. That separation keeps us a neutral partner to every agency we work with.

InDesign & IDML

Full INDD and IDML production, master pages, paragraph and character style mapping, tables, anchored objects, TOC and index regeneration.

Right-to-left typesetting

Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi, Urdu and Pashto in InDesign ME. Real RTL paragraph direction, kashida justification, diacritic positioning, Arabic and Hindi digit systems.

CJK composition

Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean. Kinsoku line-breaking, mojikumi spacing, ruby text, tate-chu-yoko and vertical composition where the design calls for it.

Indic & Southeast Asian

Devanagari, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Gujarati, Sinhala, Thai, Khmer, Lao, Burmese. Conjunct rendering, matra positioning, dictionary-based line breaking.

FrameMaker & tech docs

Structured and unstructured FrameMaker, book files, conditional text, cross-reference and variable integrity, DITA-sourced output.

Office & e-learning

Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Articulate Storyline, Captivate. Style-driven cleanup so the file survives the next update.

Localization engineering

IDML and XLIFF preparation, segmentation rules, tag protection, conditional and layer filtering, clean reimport into Trados Studio, memoQ, Phrase, XTM and Smartling.

Artwork & vector redraw

Illustrator callouts, exploded diagrams, leader lines re-anchored to translated labels, scanned legacy artwork rebuilt as editable vector.

Scripts & text expansion

Text expansion is a layout problem, not a font-size problem.

The numbers below are what we plan capacity around. When a language cannot fit without dropping below legible type, we flag it before delivery and propose a copy cut, not after your client has already seen it.

Contraction is not free. Chinese and Japanese shrink the text but leave holes in a grid designed for English, which is its own rebuild.

Process

Six steps, and you only touch two of them.

A standard job runs like this. Your project manager sends the kit and approves the proof. Everything in between is ours.

01

Kit intake and scope

You send the native source file, packaged links and fonts, a reference PDF of the approved English layout, and the translated content. We confirm page count, language list, delivery format and deadline within four working hours.

02

File preparation

Style audit on the source. Hard returns, local overrides and manual spacing get cleaned before anything is duplicated eleven times. If the source is poorly built, this is where we tell you, and it is the single biggest predictor of how the whole job goes.

03

Language layout

Translated text placed into the target-language document. Fonts substituted with licensed equivalents that carry the full glyph set. Direction, digit system, hyphenation dictionary and line-breaking rules set per locale.

04

Typographic correction

Reflow absorbed through leading, column depth, frame extension and page allocation. Widows and orphans resolved. Callouts, leader lines and captions re-anchored to their translated labels. Tables rebuilt where a column no longer holds its content.

05

Twelve-point QA

Every file passes the checklist below before it leaves. The operator who built the file is never the person who checks it.

06

Delivery and proof round

Print-ready PDF plus packaged native files in your folder structure. Annotated proof PDFs so your in-country reviewer can mark up directly. One correction round is included in the rate.

Quality control

The twelve-point check, run on every file.

Vendor managers do not rehire on price. They rehire on not having to look at the file twice. This is what we look at so you do not have to.

  • Overset text. Zero hidden overflow in any frame, table cell or grouped object.
  • Untranslated strings. No residual source language in body, callouts, headers, footers or embedded artwork.
  • Font fallback. No tofu, no substituted glyphs, no silently missing diacritics.
  • Hyphenation and justification. Correct dictionary per locale, not inherited from English.
  • Line breaking. Kinsoku for CJK, dictionary breaking for Thai and Khmer, correct conjunct handling for Indic.
  • Page count parity. Matched to source, or the deviation documented and agreed.
  • Cross-references. TOC, index, bookmarks and internal links regenerated and resolving.
  • Numerals and units. Decimal separators, date order, currency and measurement conventions per locale.
  • Callouts and leaders. Every leader line still points at the thing it described in English.
  • Bleed and trim. Bleed, slug and safe area intact after every reflow.
  • Colour and export. Correct colour space, transparency flattening and PDF export preset for your printer.
  • Accessible PDF. Reading order, language tagging and structure where the deliverable calls for it.

Working together

A firm number in four working hours, not a discovery call.

Rates are set per target page and vary by script, because Arabic composition and Latin composition are not the same amount of work. Send the files and you get a fixed quote the same day. The full rate card goes out with the vendor pack once the NDA is signed.

How pricing works

Per page, by script

Latin is the base rate. Cyrillic, CJK, right-to-left, Indic and Southeast Asian each carry a defined premium that reflects the extra composition work involved. Design-heavy material such as annual reports, packaging and artwork redraw is quoted hourly instead, because per-page means nothing when a single page takes four hours.

What moves the number

Volume, repetition, urgency

Standing monthly volume earns a discount. Repeat editions built from a template we already made cost substantially less than the first run, so the second annual report is never priced like the first. Rush, overnight and weekend delivery carries a surcharge. All three are agreed in writing before work starts.

What you never pay for

Our mistakes

The first correction round is included. Genuine production errors on our side are fixed free regardless of round count, and we do not argue about scope on a two-hour fix. The onboarding test file, up to five pages, is free for every new agency partner.

Questions vendor managers ask

Answers, without a call first.

What is multilingual desktop publishing?

Multilingual desktop publishing is the process of rebuilding a source document's layout in translated languages so the finished file matches the original design. It covers text reflow, font substitution, script direction, line-breaking rules, image callouts and print-ready export. It happens after translation and before delivery, and it is the stage where most localization projects visibly fail.

Do you translate the content as well?

No. Verso Typeset is DTP-only. You supply the approved translated text and we handle the layout.

That separation is deliberate. It keeps us a neutral production partner for translation agencies rather than a competitor quietly bidding against them for the same end clients.

What files do you need to start a project?

Four things: the native source file (INDD, IDML, FM, DOCX, PPTX or AI), all linked images and fonts packaged together, a reference PDF of the approved source layout, and the translated content as bilingual XLIFF, clean IDML, or a two-column table.

If fonts cannot be shared for licensing reasons, send the family names and we will source licensed equivalents with the glyph coverage each target script needs.

How fast is turnaround?

Standard turnaround is 24 hours for jobs under 50 pages per language, and 48 to 72 hours for 50 to 200 pages.

We work from Bengaluru on IST. Files submitted at the end of a European or North American business day are typically delivered before the next one starts. Rush and weekend delivery carries a 20 percent surcharge.

Can you typeset Arabic and Hebrew properly in InDesign?

Yes. We run InDesign in the Middle East and North Africa edition, which supports genuine right-to-left paragraph direction, Arabic and Hindi digit systems, kashida justification and correct diacritic positioning.

Mirroring a Latin layout and pasting Arabic into it is not the same thing and produces files that fail in-country review. Right-to-left work is priced as a specialist tier above Latin scripts, which is standard across the industry.

Do you work white-label for translation agencies?

Yes, and it is the majority of our work. Files come back with no Verso branding, document metadata cleaned, and your folder and naming conventions applied.

We never contact your end client. We sign your vendor NDA and master service agreement before the first file moves, and we are happy to complete your standard supplier onboarding and test file.

How much does multilingual DTP cost?

Multilingual DTP is priced per target page, with the rate varying by script. Latin is the base; Cyrillic, CJK, right-to-left, Indic and Southeast Asian scripts each carry a premium reflecting the extra composition work. Design-heavy material is quoted hourly instead.

We do not publish figures, because a page of a dense technical manual and a page of a packaging layout are not the same job. Send the files and you get a fixed quote within four working hours. The full rate card is issued with the vendor pack at onboarding.

Can you handle the IDML round trip from Trados or memoQ?

Yes. We prepare the IDML, apply conditional text and layer filtering, protect tags, hand the package to your CAT tool, and reimport the translated IDML cleanly on the other side.

We work with Trados Studio, memoQ, Phrase, XTM and Smartling. Taking the engineering step off your project managers is usually the reason agencies keep us rather than the per-page rate.

How do you handle text expansion?

In the layout, not by shrinking type below legibility. German runs 30 to 35 percent longer than English, Spanish 20 to 25, Russian around 15.

We absorb it through leading, column depth, frame extension and page allocation first. Anything that cannot be resolved without cutting copy gets flagged before we deliver, with a specific recommendation, not after your client has already reviewed it.

How do you handle confidentiality and file security?

We sign your NDA before intake, transfer over your preferred secure channel or SFTP, restrict project access to assigned operators, and purge project data on your schedule.

Pre-release pharmaceutical, medical device, financial and product launch material is routine work here. If your client requires a specific security questionnaire or audit, send it with the onboarding pack.

What happens if something is wrong in the delivered file?

Tell us and we fix it. The first correction round is included in the rate, and genuine production errors on our side are corrected free regardless of round count.

We do not argue about scope on a two-hour fix. Rework we caused is our cost.

How do we start working together?

Send a representative file of five pages or fewer in the hardest script you deal with. We return it typeset, free, usually within 24 hours, alongside a note on anything in your source setup that will cause trouble at scale.

If it holds up, we complete your vendor onboarding, sign the paperwork, and go on the roster.

Get started

Send us the file you'd normally dread.

Five pages, hardest script you have, no charge. You get it back typeset within 24 hours with an honest note on what will break at volume. That is a faster way to judge a vendor than a call.
